Carpet Maintenance Tips for Humid Environments

Carpet Maintenance Tips for Humid Environments

To keep your carpets in good shape during humid weather, here are carpet maintenance tips you can follow.

Spring is a season that brings a lot of rain. When there’s plenty of rain, it can cause weather conditions to become more humid. Humidity is a danger to carpets because they are susceptible to mold and mildew development as a result of moisture damage. That’s why it’s especially important to take good care of your carpets whenever the weather outside is humid. To keep your carpets in good shape during humid weather, here are carpet maintenance tips you can follow.

Stay on Top of Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming is going to be an essential part of your carpet maintenance routine. You’ll want to get vacuuming done a minimum of two times per week. By doing this, you can keep dirt, allergens, and other debris from collecting on your carpet. Many of these contaminants thrive under the moist conditions that humidity brings, and you don’t want these contaminants sticking around for too long.

Invest in a Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier, as its name implies, serves to combat humid conditions inside of your building. This way, there won’t be as much moisture in the air that can cause damage to your carpets. With that said, you don’t want to remove all of the humidity from your building. We recommend keeping humidity levels in the range of 30-50% for optimal indoor conditions.

Clean Up Any Spills Immediately

Carpet maintenance also includes responding to spills whenever they happen. If you act quickly to address spills, it prevents stains to your carpet, and moisture doesn’t have the chance to sink more deeply into your carpet fibers.

For effective carpet spill removal, use clean, dry towels to blot those spills gently. It’s also good to take a mixture of mild detergent and water to get your carpet cleaned up. Once that’s done, make sure to thoroughly dry your carpet to prevent moisture from sinking into it.
